Pre-K Now, a campaign of the Pew Center on the States, is currently seeking pre-k teacher-applicants to serve as a weblog contributor, responsible for writing and administration related to our Inside Pre-K weblog. Qualified applicants will have a minimum of three years pre-k teaching experience and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
The Inside Pre-K weblog features the personal insights of pre-k teachers on various classroom practices, policies, and advocacy issues. Our teacher-authors relate what is happening in their classrooms to local, state, and national pre-k news. Our dedicated readership expects to get both reliable and pertinent information on the issues surrounding pre-k as well as a bird’s-eye view of what really happens in a pre-k classroom.
Specific deliverables for this independent contractor position include:
- Writing a minimum of two (2) pre-k related blog entries per week. We will waive this requirement for up to four weeks per year but request that you make reasonable effort to give two weeks’ notice prior to time periods when you will not submit entries;
- Reviewing readers’ comments and responding to comments as appropriate;
- Providing advice and technical assistance to your co-bloggers on commenting on other blogs and networking with other Web sites;
- Monitoring other blogs and seeking opportunities to comment on their entries;
- Working with your co-bloggers and the Communications Team to promote Inside Pre-K and yourself to interested audiences, including media; and
- Other writing assignments related to Inside Pre-K as reasonably requested.
To apply for this position, please email your resume and a new writing sample (500 words max.) reflective of the type of piece you would write as an Inside Pre-K blogger. Also, if you have other issue-related writing samples to provide us with a better feel for your personality and writing style, we will gladly review up to two in conjunction with your larger application.
